I am currently looking at doing some work on the TLUG website (in conjunction to our move to the new server)
I have short listed the CMSs to
Which style of system do you prefer and why?
Don't worry about the default content on the Mambo site at this time and the lack of content on the Drupal site. Both can be easily fixed.
Site Requirements
One of the major things we need to decide on, are our requirements. As I see it they include:
- Static content about the TLUG:
- What its about
- Where the meetings are
- When (calendar of events)
- Other general info
- ie (what where when why how)
- Discussion forum. I would personally prefer this to get more use than the email list.
- More permenant recording of information
- Diseminated to a much larger group
- Not as immediate as email though.
- Members blogs, with content from talks etc.
- User registration
- Anyone can register and post comments
- Users can be promoted to administration roles to look after the whole site, or a portion.
Drupal
- Good for blogs etc
- Doesn't necisarily show up well in the site navigation etc. Can be hard to locate
- Has a discussion forum. Not the best in the world, but it does work.
Mambo
- Very powerful content management system.
- Based on the concept of static content and news items (primarily)
- WSYWIG editor available to create content
- Can allow authorised users to upload image etc (and link to content)
- Doesn't appear to have a propper forum module, but *may* link to PHP BB, although that apparently has issues.
Both systems
- Have other modules available
- Have customisable themes. Some easier to modfiy than others.
